Velu Narayanasamy (born 30 May 1947) is an Indian National Congress politician who is serving as Chief Minister of the south Indian Union Territory of Puducherry.
SCHEMES OF PUDHUCHERRY
LAND ACQUISITION AND DEVELOPMENT SCHEME
SLUM UPGRADATION PROGRAMME
The scheme aims at acquiring sites at different parts of urban areas and to construct tenements and provide developed plots under “Sites and Services” concept to the slum dwellers. Improvement works to the existing Slums are being implemented through the Slum Clearance Board. The tenements in storeyed blocks are made available to the slum dwellers on rental basis. Apart from the above, upgradation of slum areas by extending basic amenities viz., roads, water supply, sewerage, education, health, electricity, social infrastructure are also undertaken.
HOUSING BOARD GRANTS IN AID SCHEME
The Puducherry Housing Board was constituted in the year 1975 with the objective of providing housing facilities for the growing population in the Unionterritory of Puducherry by construction of HIG, MIG, LIG and EWS housing complexes and implementation of the relevant schemes with a motive of increasing the housing stock.
Lands are developed into housing plots/Flats wherein the HIG, MIG, LIG and EWS houses are being constructed by the Puducherry Housing Board. To make up the short fall while implementing the various housing schemes, funds are provided in the form of “Grants-in-Aid”.
TRAINING TO ARTISANS/ MASONS
The Objective of the scheme is to popularize cost effective and environment friendly building techniques through the Building centre. Under this scheme cost effective building construction technique are being imparted through the Building centre at Villianur, Puducherry and Rural Building Centre, Poovam at Karaikal.
PERUNTHALAIVAR KAMARAJAR HOUSING SCHEME FOR HOMELESS POOR
The object of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to each of the Houseless Poor families under Below Poverty Line (BPL) category to construct a house who do not possess a pucca house on his/her/their own plot in urban or rural areas and to make the U.T. of Puducherry " a Hutless" state. Under this scheme financial assistance / subsidy of Rs. 2,00,000/- are being given to the 10000 BPL families every year. The ownership of the said plot shall have been acquired through any one.
CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT SCHEMES
The main emphasis under this scheme is to develop the Puducherry Town befitting to be the capital city and to resolve traffic congestion and bottlenecks in the urban areas of the U.T. of Puducherry. Construction of shopping complexes, improvement to sea-beach, extensions of urban amenities to the city and peripheries, etc. are being taken up to decentralize the commercial activities from city centre, construction of satellite markets are taken up as part of the programme. Improvements to important roads and junctions, installation of signals and sign boards and model bus stops have also been done under this scheme.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPROVEMENTS IN URBAN SLUMS
The aim of the scheme is to improve the environmental conditions in the existing slums by extending a package of physical services like roads, drains, toilet blocks, water supply and etc.
RAJIV AWAS YOGANA
Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) scheme envisages a "Slum Free India" with inclusive and equitable cities in which every citizens has access to basic civic infrastructure, social amenities and decent shelter.
